The development of digital technology creates complex black boxes such as big data algorithms and artificial intelligence. These complex systems, which follow certain defined rules, dramatically bring the sense of mystery back to reality. Digital technology is creating new beliefs. I want to create Digi-Totems to reveal the phenomenon.
The project starts with the practice of developing a way to draw grainy primitive geometries. After testing with simple shapes and creating a grainy filter, I choose fractals as the theme. To create the feeling of mystery, I select the Mandelbulb as the object to draw. By compressing the 3D bulb to a 2D surface and decreasing the sample points, I accelerate the rendering process.
The project uses the top view of diverse Mandelbulb to generate Digi-Totem with a grainy filter, revealing the psychological and metaphysical situation of people in the post-human era. In the next step, I tried to create sequences of flowing Mandelbulb images and make them interactive.
